Rail journey launches from Seattle to Canadian Rockies

SEATTLE – Canadian rail operator Rocky Mountaineer has launched the first luxury train service connecting the U.S. and Canada. The 10-day Coastal Passage route departs from Seattle and travels up the Pacific Northwest coastal shoreline to Vancouver. From there, the route goes into the Canadian Rockies with stops in Kamloops and Jasper.

Passengers then switch from train to motorcoach as they travel to the Columbia Icefield, Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary. The trip books guests in Fairmont hotels throughout the itinerary. Travelers can experience the route in both directions depending on their preferences.

During the rail portion of the Coastal Passage itinerary, guests will stay on Rocky Mountaineer’s bilevel, glass-domed GoldLeaf train coach. Passengers can enjoy the unspoiled, glass-dome views upstairs and dine downstairs.

Current departures for the Coastal Passage itinerary include Aug. 25 and 25, 2013 (one departure in each direction) with optional extended stays in Seattle, Vancouver, Banff and Jasper. The Coastal Passage is the fifth rail route offered by Rocky Mountaineer.
